Your Heart’s Desire

What is your Heart’s Desire? Really? That secret little thing you keep hidden even from yourself most of the time? I hope you realize that the longer you keep this Desire hidden in favor of doing “something else” the longer it’ll be before you get good at The Fine Art. Holding on to things that no longer suit you is the fastest way to accumulate more junk, put out the lights in your well lit house & clog your juice pump. It’s the cosmic equivlent of sitting down to a meal of your most hated food when you’re starving & trying to choke it down with a smile. A genuine smile. Not gonna happen. And in the end you’ll be sitting there in your dark, chilly, rubbish-filled house poking your fingers into the juice pump trying to get whatever drops of soured juice you can, wondering why the well’s run dry & the power’s gone out. Your Heart’s Desire is a message from your Soul; it’s what juices you. It’s what will give you that eagerness to get out of bed in the mornings, that thing you’d pay somebody else to get the chance to do.

We’ve become so accustomed to telling our Hearts Desire to shut up & go away we actually now believe that we don’t know what we want. Surely it can’t be THAT thing from way long time ago. You’re all grown up now, drive your own car & everything; your Desire HAS to have changed by now to something more mature, more socially acceptable & certainly not so flakey! And anyway, you can’t possibly do that now. You have a family to look after, house payments, car payments, school payments, insurance payments, goldfish payments, payment payments!!! And you’ve invested all that time & money into learning to do this not-my-Heart’s-Desire thing. What will people think if you just up & moved on to something else just because you want to be happy?!

First off, boot the Whatwillpeoplethinks out of your house. They’re actively & miserably making a mess of things (they’re always unhappy no matter what they do, so no, they won’t be happily making a mess of your life.) I’ll hang out here while you get those no lifes out. Make sure you evict any “friends” they brought along. ::happy dancing while waiting for you to come back:: Done? Good! Now, on to the next thing.

Though I’m not necessarily of the belief that we were “put here” for a purpose, we do have things that light us up completely. Those are the things that need to be in our lives daily. The Fine Art is Being Happy No Matter What BUT it’s not a grin & bear it kind of practice. Surely you didn’t imagine you could keep doing things that sucked the life out of you & covered you in mud & be a practitioner of The Fine Art, did you? The Fine Art demands we do those things that fulfill us & make us happy. If you happen to find yourself in a situation you don’t like, practicing The Fine Art will help you find your way away from abject misery & into a more suitable situation. Understand that should you find yourself in an unpleasant situation & you opt, out of fear, to remain there you are no longer practicing The Fine Art. There’s no room for fear in The Fine Art. Fear is useful information to be used when practicing The Fine Art, but not a place to hang out & wallow.

So, what is your Heart’s Desire? Coax it out of hiding & get to know it. Talk to it, play with it, hang out with it awhile & let it tell you its tales. It will certainly have tales to tell – happy, sad, angry, joyous, ridiculously silly. Listen to them. There are gifts & guidance in those tales. Keep your Desire uppermost in your thoughts as you go about your day. You’ll begin to notice ways to fulfill your Desire, whispered in the ordinary goings on of your daily life. You must act on them or your Desire will go back into hiding. Most actions will likely be small things, at least at first. By the time you get to the actions that seem big & bold to on lookers it’ll seem like not much of a thing to you. You’ll be accustomed to doing things on your Desire’s behalf by then.
