Who knew starting a business could be so much fun & so damned frustrating all at once? I love the small victories of setting up my social networks, researching & writing all at once so I can share with you, finally “getting it” that something like adding a widget to my page is a simple something I really can do in spite of the many other challenges that come with my biz building learning curve. It would seem like a crazy time to decide to commit to 30 days of going raw vegan but thank the Lady I did! I wouldn’t have the energy or clarity of mind to do it otherwise. I was just too tired, foggy headed & grouchy to do what I’ve managed so far. And I’m having a BLAST!!! 🙂
So just how IS that raw vegan commitment going anyway? Honestly? It’s going fabulously! My body’s clearing out, my energy’s increasing, the mental clarity’s amazing & only getting better. Sure I have my moments of fatigue, but I find myself once again able to make it through an entire day without a nap if I choose not to take one. That’s the thing bout living raw vegan: you have choices! You can choose to be vibrant & healthy, you can choose to have desert or not, you have no need of calorie counting. You can really get your divinity on because you have the vitality to pull it off; dragging ass is just not a presentation of divine.
The key to my success thus far has been making a TON of food to have on hand at all times & daily green smoothies. I can’t stress enough how important greens are to ANY diet! They’re chock full of amino acids, the precursors to protein which Western civilization seems to have such an obsession with, chlorophyll & all manner of phytonutrients so little understood yet vital to our health. We don’t get anywhere near enough greens in the standard American/Western diet. Green smoothies are a super easy super tasty way to get ‘er done & thus a key part of my day.
Here’s the recipe for my daily green smoothie, nicknamed “Stomper” by my boys because I use so many greens they swear I stand on the counter over my blender & stomp them in!
1 c. blueberries
1 1/2 c. strawberries
2 med. bananas
2 cubes frozen wheatgrass (optional)
1 pkg. plain acai juice (optional)
8 med. – large dates
1/2 t. kelp or dulse powder
dash of salt (optional)
at least 1 bunch of kale (can sub any greens you like, but I love kale & use it every chance I get)
water (I use about a quart give or take, but adjust the amount based on how thick you like your smoothies; you can also sub milk for the water)
* Put everything in the blender & blend until smooth. I use a Vita-Mix so I have no need to thaw or soak anything (I buy huge quantities of berries & freeze them for future use in my smoothies). If you don’t have a high-powered blender you may need to soak the dates ahead of time about 15 minutes or so.
There you have it! Give it a go & let me know how it all turns out for you.
